THE COST'S OF LIFE ON A STATION

Picture this, it is 2024 you don't know how much a loaf of bread costs, or even a litre of milk. You haven't paid for diesel in over 12 months let alone paid a water or electricity bill.

Your main concern is whether your new horse will buck you off

tomorrow, or what time breakfast is. There is no thought to budgeting as what

you make you keep.

It's 2024 and you work on a remote cattle station 100's of km

from anywhere, you have zero expenses only having to pay for your 'fun' every

so often upon your escape into town.

Work hard, play harder is a familiar saying when you are three

weeks deep into mustering with what seems no end in sight. You trust that

within time you will load the horses, pack the truck and head to town for a

campdraft. You will laugh, dance and party till the sun comes up before

returning home to reset your social battery.

You will not think twice about spending $50 at the local hot box

as a snack, and $8 for a bag of chips must be normal. $7 for a Powerade seems

perfectly fine when you are hungover and can't drive to town. You often will

not look at the price because that is the only option.

The drive home always seems twice as long as the drive into

town, you take a deep sigh of relief on return to the green patch of grass you

call home. Where the drinks are cold and the fridge is always full.

Because living on a remote cattle station is LIVING
