A NEW SEASON
As the rain slows down the work speeds up.
The alarms are back on and convoys of 4WDs are headed 'Up North' for what is shaping up to be a killer season. Fences lay flat and weaners are sappy. All over Australia bags are being packed and swung into the back of 4WDs. Cowgirls and cowboys are driving over 4000km in and attempt to get to some of the most remote cattle stations in Australia. Some have a smooth trip while some will get pulled up with flash flooding. But without a doubt they will all make it in the end.
Within time Toyotas will be bogged and the radio will be nonstop. For the 2024 season is here.
One by one they will drive up the driveway, home to some and foreign to a few. Each with new yarns and undoubtedly a new pair of jeans or two. Boots will be dusted off and the new 5am alarm will get old again. The anticipation for the first day back always gets you out of bed smoothly. While deep down you know that high energy will fade.
Sitting around the table together again the last two months feels more like years, the yarns are loud, full of laughter and filled with memories. What were once Ten tired, drained bodies have now returned replenished and full of life.
There is something so special about a new season, a fresh start, some new faces and new adventures. Up North no two years are the same, each season will come with a new set of challenges and this season will be no different.
